S/Y Hanseat IV is the
result of careful planning and design by the famous design studio of
Bill Dixon Yachtdesign in Southhampton, UK, with classic appearance and
a beautiful sheer line.
The idea was to create a uncompromisingly comfortable, easy to handle,
safe and well performing sloop of the highest standard in respect to
construction, materials and equipment.
Germanischer Lloyd attested her the highest class for hull, materials,
engine spaces and mast/rigging.
Consequently an extremely rigid hull construction with a 45 mm red cedar
core and multiple inner and outer layer of epoxy GRP was chosen. The
outer layer was additionally fitted with 1,5 layers of Kevlar for
improved impact resistance. Structural members such as keelson, engine
beds and mast step were constructed in solid mahogany and epoxy GRP
coated.
The list of equipment is extremely extensive with only the best names of
the marine equipment manufacturers, such as Marten Spars, Niggarna
Rigging, Doyle Sails, Reckmann hydraulic furlers, Lewmar hydraulic
winches, Lugger Main Propulsion, Norther Light Generators, Master Volt
chargers and inverters, Hundested Controllable Pitch propeller, Lewmar
hydraulics, Lewmar Bowthruster, Cruise-air aircondition, B+G Navigation,
Furuno Radar/plotter/Sounder, Miele kitchen and washing/dryer machines,
Superflush toilets, Bose Entertainment, Sharp flat screen TV’s, Nera
Inmarsat Mini M etc.etc. The complete and detailed list of equipment
onboard is listed in the following pages of this website.
The interior boasts a tasteful, classic raised and fielded panelled
ambiente in American Cherry with blue leather in the upper saloon and
fabrics from France and the USA in the lower saloon . The lower or
dining saloon caters for a cosy space in the yacht to read or entertain
friends in front of the open flame fireplace or dine in style.
The decks layout with Burmese teakdecks provides safe working space and
storage-lockers for all kinds of decks gear and also houses the two reel
winches for the main halyard and the staysail sheet. A spacious cockpit
provides ample space to work with no ropes or winches interfering. Two
wheels and two consoles provide excellent stations to navigate from with
all instruments available in multiple numbers. Consoles, chart table and
owner’s cabin show repeaters of all main instruments.
To manoeuvre the yacht in the most narrow marinas is a sheer delight
considering, that the variable controllable pitch propeller and the 45
Hp Bowthruster give exactly what is required in such circumstances. To
motor over longer distance is powerful, yet smooth with noise levels in
owners cabin below 45 db and in saloons around 55 db. Cruising speed at
economical consumption is around 9.5 kn and 3900 ltr of fuel give a
considerable range under engine of abt.2500 nm
Sailing the yacht is pleasure throughout. The mainsail, which is
operated by the Leisure Furl patented carbon boom can be hoisted
hydraulically either by 24 V battery power or by PTO connected to the
main engine in a matter of 1.5 min only. The fully battened sail with a
considerable broach shows an excellent shape even in reefed condition.
Reefing is merely a matter of pushing a button. Obviously the sail can
in case of need be operated manually. The Genua, also furled by the push
of a button, just like the self tacking staysail, are efficient and
provide an excellent forward trust to the yacht. The rainbow-coloured
APC (MPS) of 406 sqm is stowed in a sleeve, which makes hoisting an easy
exercise.
The obvious place onboard to enjoy in the Mediterranean climate (the
yacht has her base port in the eastern Mediterranean Sea) is the
spacious cockpit, although for aircondition lovers the interior is
always cool. The cockpit table allows 8 to dine under a sunroof, which
furls out of the boom and is fixed to the telescopic stanchions of the
searailing. A cockpit fridge ensures drinks are pleasantly chilled. A
huge aft deck allows space to sunbathe or fish with two fishing rods. At
night a swim with the surrounding water being illuminated by underwater
lights gives a extra thrill to those lucky ones.
In a nutshell S/Y Hanseat IV is an admirable yacht, which provides for
owner, guests and crew a pleasant and safe sailing craft in all
conditions.
